Four Marinas, Two Lakes, One Family
Where we operate
Rubright Marinas runs four marinas across two lakes in two states. Two sit on Old Hickory Lake in Middle Tennessee, close to Nashville. Two sit on Barren River Lake in southern Kentucky. All four are owned and run by the same family, and all four share the same standard: ethanol free fuel, a stocked store and staff who know their lake.
The four marinas are not identical, and that is the point. Each one suits a different kind of boater, and part of choosing where to keep a boat is matching the marina to how you actually use the water. This page introduces all four so you can find the one that fits.
The two Tennessee marinas, on Old Hickory Lake
Old Hickory Lake is a Cumberland River impoundment covering roughly 22,500 acres, about thirty five minutes from downtown Nashville. It is the closest large lake to the city, which makes it busy and convenient in equal measure. Our two marinas sit on opposite sides of it.
Gallatin Marina
Gallatin Marina is where the company began in 2017, and it is the fullest service of the four. Covered slips and dry storage with SpeedyDock, so you can request your boat from your phone and have it in the water by the time you arrive. It sits on the north side of the lake, closest to Gallatin, Hendersonville and Goodlettsville.
If you want the widest choice of storage and the shortest drive from the north side of Nashville, this is the one to look at first.
The Boathouse at Benders Ferry
The Boathouse at Benders Ferry sits on the eastern side of Old Hickory Lake in Mount Juliet, and it runs on a single idea: concierge dry storage. You book a launch, the team pulls the boat and fuels it, and you walk from the car to a boat that is already floating and ready. For boaters coming from East Nashville, Hermitage, or Lebanon, The Boathouse at Benders Ferry offers a much simpler drive than crossing the city to reach the north shore.
If you value getting on the water fast and keeping the boat in top condition between trips, start here.
The two Kentucky marinas, on Barren River Lake
Barren River Lake covers around 10,000 acres in southern Kentucky, quieter and less developed than the Cumberland River lakes to the south. Much of the shoreline is park and Corps land, so the views are trees rather than houses. People drive here from Bowling Green, Glasgow and Louisville precisely because it is calmer water.
Barren River State Dock
Barren River State Dock sits inside Barren River Lake State Resort Park in Lucas. It is the only marina in the group where renting a boat for the day is as common as keeping one year round, so if you do not own a boat, or you are visiting the park for a weekend, this is the one. Pontoons and fishing boats by the day, plus premium slips for owners, all set inside a state resort park with a lodge, campground and golf.
Peninsula Marina
Peninsula Marina near Glasgow is the smaller and quieter of the two Barren River operations. Where the state dock is busy with rentals and park visitors, Peninsula is built around people who keep a boat here and want to get on the water without navigating a crowd to do it. Covered and open slips, a short walk from the car park to the slip, and the feel of somewhere people know each other.
What all four share
Whichever marina suits you, three things are the same at every one.
- Ethanol free fuel with Primrose additives, which protects a marine engine from the water absorption and corrosion that pump gas causes
- A store stocked for lake days: ice, drinks, snacks, sunscreen, rope and the safety equipment you are required to carry
- Family ownership, so the person you deal with has a stake in getting it right
Find your marina
The quickest way to choose is by lake and by how you boat. North Nashville and the widest storage choice points to Gallatin. East Nashville and fast, protected dry storage points to The Boathouse. A weekend in a Kentucky state park, or a boat to rent, points to Barren River State Dock. A quieter slip on the Kentucky side points to Peninsula.
Still not sure, call and tell us how you use the water. We will point you to the right one.
